How We Do the Cleanest Window Tint Install: Every Step From Prep to Pickup

Two cars can get the exact same film and drive away looking completely different. One has a speck of dust trapped in the middle of the driver’s window, a corner that is already lifting and a wavy gap along the top of the glass you can see from across the parking lot. The other looks like the glass came from the factory that way.

The difference is almost never the film. It is everything that happens before and while the film goes on. Here is exactly what we do on every car that comes into our Inman studio — and what to look for when you pick yours up, wherever you get it done.

Every tint job starts and finishes inside our studio in Inman — never in a driveway or a parking lot.

What “clean” means to us: no dust or hair under the film, no bubbles, no lifted corners, tight and even edges, no ripples on the rear glass, nothing left on your door panels — and a shade that is legal in South Carolina, checked with a meter, not guessed.

What a clean tint job looks like

Stand a few feet from the car with light behind the glass and check five things:

  • Contamination. A clean window has no specks, hairs or fibers trapped under the film. Each one shows up as a small dot with a halo around it, and it never cures out.
  • Edges. On roll-down windows the film should run close to the top edge of the glass with a thin, even line — not a wide or wavy gap.
  • Corners. Nothing lifting or peeling, even after the windows have gone up and down for a few weeks.
  • Rear glass. Smooth from edge to edge. Ripples, lines or “fingers” mean the film was never shrunk to the curve of the glass.
  • The rest of the car. No scratches on the trim, no glue on the door panels, no water stains on the headliner.

A slight haze or a few small water pockets in the first days are normal — that is the mounting solution drying out, and it disappears as the film cures. Specks, lifted edges and creases are a different story: they do not go away.

How we get there, step by step

1. Indoors, under hex lights

Dust is the enemy of window film, and wind carries it. We install inside our studio, under hex lighting that shows every speck on the glass before any film gets near it. If we can see it, we can get it off the glass.

2. The car is protected before anything gets wet

Tinting is a wet job: the glass gets scrubbed, sprayed and squeegeed. When old film has to come off, we steam it off and strip the old adhesive from the glass — and before that starts, the door panel is covered in plastic and taped at the glass line. Steam, water and glue stay on the glass, not on your leather, speakers and switches.

3. Deep glass prep, edges included

This is where most bad tint jobs are decided. The glass is scrubbed inside and out, and the edges and gaskets are scraped and cleaned. Dirt hides in the seal at the bottom of a door window and along the top edge, and if it is not cleaned out first, the squeegee drags it straight under the film.

4. Film cut and shaped for your glass

Film is cut to your windows, piece by piece. Each piece is fitted on the outside of the glass first, where it can be shaped and trimmed without touching your interior, and only then goes on the inside.

5. Heat-shrunk to the curve

Rear windshields and many side windows curve in two directions, and flat film does not want to follow them. On the outside of the glass, the film is shrunk with a heat gun until it matches the curve exactly. That is why our rear glass comes out smooth instead of rippled — on everything from a Suburban to a Corvette.

6. Squeegeed by hand, edge to edge

The film goes on the inside of the glass over slip solution, and every drop of water and every bit of air is pushed out by hand, from the center toward the edges. The edges get the last and most careful pass, so they sit down tight against the glass.

7. Metered, inspected, handed over

Every window is metered so the car leaves legal under South Carolina law — here is exactly what the law allows. Then the whole car gets checked under our lights for specks, edges and gaps before you ever see it.

The film matters too — it just comes second

We install X GUARD and STEK films. Carbon film blocks 99% of UV and keeps a clean factory look that does not fade to purple. Ceramic film adds real heat rejection — up to 96% of infrared heat with our flagship X Pro Ceramic — with no metal inside, so GPS, phone signal and radio keep working. After you pick it up

  • Keep the windows up while the film cures: 2–3 days in summer, 3–4 in spring and fall, 4–5 in winter. Rolling them down early can push the film off the top edge.
  • Small water pockets or a light haze are normal in the first days. Parking in the sun speeds up the cure.
  • Clean the inside of the glass only after the film has cured, with a soft microfiber and an ammonia-free glass cleaner.
  • If anything looks off, call us. A scratched window can usually be re-tinted in under 30 minutes.

Every tint we install carries a lifetime warranty against bubbling, peeling, cracking and turning purple, and the warranty transfers when you sell the car.

Quick answers

How long does it take?

Usually 2–4 hours, depending on the vehicle. You can wait in the shop or drop the car off.

Can you take off my old tint?

Yes. Old, bubbled or purple film is steamed off and the adhesive is cleaned off the glass before the new film goes on.

I see small bubbles the day after. Is that a problem?

Small water pockets in the first days are normal and dry out as the film cures. A speck of dirt or a lifted edge is not normal — bring it back and we will make it right.

Will ceramic tint mess with my phone or GPS?

No. Ceramic film has no metal in it, so phone, GPS, radio and toll tags work exactly as before.

What shades can I choose?

5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%. We help you pick what you like and what is legal on your car, and we meter every window before the car leaves.
